My suitcase is outside the bus. I’ve left it there in hopes someone takes it away and relieves me of all that I packed and did not need. It happens every time without fail. I mean I even brought a pair of goggles. Did I really think they were a necessity? Every day I grab all of my bags and haul them into the day room and repack and it seldom does any good. My life is in my bunk and thank the lord that I’m short (first time I’m ever giving thanks for that) because that means I can fit more shist at my feet and feel like I’m safe. Safe with my goggles…at my feet.
Last night we played St. Louis and the big news of late is how we all seem to be dropping like flies. Jason (guitarist extraordinaire) was attacked by a flight case and the elevator and now his pinky finger is paying for it. Smashed up pulpy mess it is. Poor Alice had an encounter with a floor, face first, and has been sporting a shiner for the past three days. This ain’t no fluff girl singer songwriter tour.
I am, knock on wood, injury free at the moment. Although, there is some internal bleeding in my heart (hahahahah! Just kidding.. ahhaha!) yeah, whatever. Anyway, I’ve been pretty good about preventative measures up till now. I think I’ve even had 2 bottles of water with EmergenC (however you spell it) – powdery vitamin stuff that everyone on tour relies on to hold off colds.. So far, so good.
Great to see you all last night – Kerry – thank you for my elephant, Samantha – big hugs, Jason – again, many thanks for making me your top myspace friend and number 2 – I’m sorry for that, you seem like a very deserving friend and shall the title ever pass to you I will support it fully.
Love to all and in general, please buy the hoodies. I brought too many and if I end up with 800 hoodies in my apartment….well, it’ll be a sad affair.. and I won’t be able to get to my piano.. which means I won’t be able to write songs..which means I’ll have to stop touring… which will lead to a reclusive existence of goggle wearing and internal bleeding hermitlike behavior. And I won’t make it to Kansas anymore. Just like Dorothy. And I can’t kick my sparkly red heels together because I didn’t friggin bring them with me! Dammit! I knew I forgot something…

Jumped on the Hotel Café All Gal Extravaganza a few nights ago and realized I haven’t donned (is that a word?) a blog about tour in a while. In fact our own headlining tour went by so quickly that I didn’t get a word out. To recap – it was great, insane, filled with pranks involving tighty whities, cribs and firedrills, string sections and the awesome Kevin Devine etc etc.. Thank you for coming and if you missed it, we’ll be back with our own show in December to a few cities for some holiday beer. I mean, cheer.

Back to all things present day. Currently sitting underneath an overpass in Brooklyn where the oil stains are plenty, coffee is scarce and a group of skaters/ boarders/ skate boarders (whatever the slick name to call them is) have arrived and are doing tricks around the bus. Folks are waking in stages and trading day room keys to grab the life saving shower while the hotel guests look us up and down with bewilderment and disgust as we creep in dressed in old makeup, pjs and overcoats – the girls are disheveled too. Thank god for the bus though. Last tour was the good old van and there is just no way to get comfortable in one of those. This bus has a coffin with my name on it and it’s almost like vacation to be able to close the world away with just a curtain. It’s a tidal wave of mess in there however.. I’m not sure if I was expecting an all female round to be a more tidy experience. It is very much the opposite, although there is something sweet about piles of pink tutus, bunny ears and curling irons, sexy shoes and betsy Johnson bags. It was of course Halloween last night so don’t read this and think we’re having underwear clad pillow fights in the lounge (although, maybe we will , it’s still the early days).

Meiko is the sassiest and always makes me laugh – up for adventure (she weathered the street celebrations in Philly the night of the World Series with me), Tao the coolest – her guitar riffs are infectious as well as her stage presence and I wake up every morning singing her songs, Sam the liveliest with neverending energy and wit as well as being my twin as we’re saying (long hair and bangs with sisterly style), jenny is the heartbreaker and makes me want to cuddle her up after a show she can be so vulnerable when she sings ( I would, but she don’t need it – as in she could beat my ass) and Emily has just joined and is equally as sweet as the others and a total genius when it comes to all things electronic and violin.

To sum it all up, we’re here, we’re playing, and we don’t wear lipstick (although I would if my hair didn’t get stuck in it all the time)…
